Very busy in Uruguay clash
Al-Owais registered nine saves and allowed one goal in Monday's 1-1 draw against Uruguay.
Analysis: Al-Owais was under pressure throughout the game, as Saudi Arabia were forced to sit back a lot, and responded well for the most part, denying Federico Vinas multiple times with strong saves and preserving the result late by brilliantly palming away menacing attempts by Nicolas De La Cruz and Federico Valverde. However, he didn't properly reject a header midway through the second half, leading to Maxi Araujo's tap-in. Up next, Saudi Arabia will face Spain on Sunday.
Back at another World Cup
Al-Owais is set to be a backup keeper for Saudi Arabia at the 2026 World Cup.
Analysis: Al-Owais is heading to a second straight World Cup with Saudi Arabia and is eyeing a potential starting role once again, although he looks to be beaten out by Nawaf Al Aqidi (hamstring) for the time being. However, with an injury to Al Aqidi, he could work into a larger role for a game or two, potentially even continuing in the role, although the latter seems unlikely. He will give the team a bit of experience at the World's biggest stage from the defense, but in a group with Uruguay and Spain, they seem unlikely to succeed.
